PLUM PICTURES for BBC TWO

A four-part observational documentary series revealing the law as you’ve probably never seen it before. Howard Greenberg is a criminal defense attorney in Brooklyn. Every day is a war to be fought on many fronts. The series tells the stories of Howard’s battles with The Government on behalf of his clients. They are facing charges for everything from traffic tickets to murder. His struggles continue at home with Marie, his wife of 17 years and a former court stenographer who he accuses of being a closet prosecutor. According to Howard, she is “constantly twisting my balls”, not least over an ever-growing mountain of unopened children’s toys that for 20 years Howard has been stashing in the basement…

“This show is not unaware that there is humour to be had in separation television. Nor does it belittle the amazing work the mediators do, or gloss over the utter awfulness and sadness of separation – what it does to people, what it does to children. Everyone deserves respect and thanks for letting the cameras in, because the result is a fascinating insight into a world you would normally only ever see from the inside, if it were happening to you – when you might not be in the best frame of mind to appreciate or learn from it.”

“An effective piece of no-frills television that shone a much-needed light on the extraordinary people who keep our country on track. Who says public service is dead?”

THE TELEGRAPH

“Like all good observational documentaries, this was really about the people. The frustrated commuters, the roadside residents and most of all the bloke whose job it is to pick up rubbish at the side of the lay-by. The Motorway captured all this, but also the strangeness, the mystery and, yes, even the glamour of a lonely stretch of the M6 on a wet night.”
